Next week is the PPLS Careers week so I think it’s a good opportunity to write about my experience with the Careers Service at the University of Edinburgh. I found them very useful! But there are some tricks and things that most people don’t know about this service that I think I should write about here…
The Careers Service…
Are you stressing over your career path? Are you writing a CV for the first time and looking for someone to check it? Are you hesitating between getting a job or continuing into postgrad after graduation? Are you looking for an internship abroad or in the UK? Fret not! The Careers Service can help you!
Appointment with a careers consultant…
Do you know that you can have a one-to-one chat with a careers specialist by appointment? Yes, as a student at the University of Edinburgh, you are entitled to a few appointments with the Careers Service every month.
All you need to do is book an appointment online on MyCareerHub. Pick the time you’re available. Then go to see your personal consultant on the 3rd floor of the Main Library and your problem will be pretty much sorted! They are open Monday to Friday, 9.15 am – 4.45 pm.
When I tried to write a CV for the first time, I was not sure what I should do. Even with all the googling and some guidance on the Internet, it really helps if someone with experience would read my CV. So I made an appointment with the Careers Service and met Sarah who gave superb advice!
Yes, I would totally recommend an appointment with a careers consultant.
Careers Fair…
The university also holds careers fair for a few days on both semesters. You can meet people from the organizations that offer graduate jobs, internship and summer camp opportunities here!
MyCareers Hub…
Many people asked me how I find my part-time jobs and internships. This is one of my resources! You can search for different kinds of opportunities, from part-time jobs and summer internships. These are not limited to jobs in the UK but also abroad. You can even find graduate jobs here. Since the job offers are already screened by the Careers Service, you can be certain that they are legitimate (and not some dodgy jobs!)…
