A little reflection

Four things I learned this year. Given that, in some ways, my first year at university is over, I wanted to reflect on my time as a refresher. I hope that any prospective students see this and get excited for… Read moreA little reflection

Why I chose Edinburgh

Why I chose Edinburgh

Choosing… Choosing which University to go for was hard for me for quite a while. I knew I wanted to apply for a ‘good University’ with course modules I liked the look of, but that’s about as far as what… Read moreWhy I chose Edinburgh

January 28, 2020February 3, 2020 Monika Zon

AKA 5 things I wish I knew before coming to Edinburgh University. This may be very philosophy-student centred, but I thought I would share a little insight for all interested in studying with the PPLS school, or Edinburgh University in… Read more5 things I wish I knew before coming to university

Beyond Edinburgh Castle

Beyond Edinburgh Castle

One thing I’ve noticed since moving to Edinburgh is how nice it is to have castles within a 45 minute driving distance in every direction. It’s quite crazy, but really nice for day trips. As much as I love Edinburgh… Read moreBeyond Edinburgh Castle

Alternative title: a potential way to make friends at University. Tired of coffee dates? Spending too much time at the library? Maybe the conversation at the get-together has died out and you need something to break the silence? I really… Read moreBoard games for university

November 18, 2019February 3, 2020 Monika Zon

Friends and family coming over and you don’t know where to take them?  This should be a more seasonal post, but, I met an elderly couple at the North Bridge bus stop yesterday; first time for them in beautiful Edinburgh…. Read moreEdinburgh tour guide (you!)

Quick Recipes (Don’t Starve!)

October 26, 2019April 15, 2020 Monika Zon

Cooking for one person? It’s stupidly hard. Cooking for two is only slightly better, but the bulk buying every supermarket encourages (and, to some extent, forces) leads to a lot of waste. I’m trying to get better. I thought I… Read moreQuick Recipes (Don’t Starve!)

Letting go. As spring starts to dawn on us and wit Letting go. As spring starts to dawn on us and with 2020 put behind us, I think either now or over the past few months there has been a lot to let go of in our lives. This week, it's been my hair. But its so much more than that. As we've reflected on how the past year has affected us, we can almost say we've come out as new people, and there's so much to let go of as we enter this new era. Whether it's from negativity or certain habit, what do you want let go of?

Waving from Namibia! 👋🏻🌊 I hope everyone Waving from Namibia! 👋🏻🌊
I hope everyone has had a chance to either catch up on work, relax or recharge. Now we take on the rest of the semester!

This semester I have made peace with the fact that I will spend my whole second year at Edinburgh University not in Edinburgh, but in my hometown Swakopmund, Namibia. What a weird year!! Even though things are still crazy I want to remind you all and myself that we are doings our bests and that is all that matters!

Living alone can feel lonely at times and so I oft Living alone can feel lonely at times and so I often spend time doing things to occupy myself. I love (and I mean love) nature so I take walks whenever the urge strikes (highly recommended). I often take more pictures of the world around me than of anything else. What better day to share with you two photos I love that remind me of cherished times?

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you found someone/ something that made you smile today.
